A two-year-old had a fatal accident in a water catchment basin in the Bavarian community of Ludwigschorgast.
Witnesses noticed the lifeless toddler and dialed the emergency number, said the Upper Franconian police headquarters.
Despite immediate attempts at resuscitation, the boy died a little later in the hospital.
As things stand, the investigators assume that the boy drowned.
