In November 2021, the unique role of the Château de Chambord under the Occupation will finally emerge from the shadows, told in new permanent exhibition rooms.
This course, available in nine stations, will be entitled “Saving a little of the beauty of the world”, in reference to a little-known episode in the long life of the castle.
“From September 1939, Chambord housed nearly 4,000 m3 of boxes containing masterpieces from national museums,”
explains Yannick Mercoyrol, director of programming for the estate.
This recent, forgotten history deserves to be explained. ”

From 1938, the risk of war looms, and the director of the National Museums, Jacques Jaujard, will initiate a vast program to evacuate public art collections.
