A new competitor for supermarkets and delivery services has started in Germany.

The Czech company Rohlik wants to conquer the market in this country.

Munich - For years, online shopping has been becoming increasingly popular in Germany.

The simple ordering of clothes, electrical appliances and also food from restaurants is practiced by the majority of the population.

Only when shopping for groceries do the majority still prefer going to the nearest supermarket or other grocery stores.

But since the corona pandemic, a change is slowly becoming apparent.

Supermarket delivery services not yet established - Czech company Rohlik is entering the market

Supermarkets like Edeka have been trying to establish the delivery business for some time, but not yet with great success.

You can order online at Netto Marken-Discount and Rewe, but you have to pick up the goods yourself at the store.

Lidl had to stop a test run due to lack of success and Aldi is still in the planning phase.

The Czech company Rohlik now wants to enter into precisely this gap.

The delivery service is already the market leader at home and now wants to conquer the market in Germany under the name Knuspr.

Rohlik wants to start under the name Knuspr in Germany - test phase in Munich

As

Chip.de

reports, the

ambitious goal is

to supply around 30 million customers with groceries by 2024, thus knocking Lieferando off the e-food throne in Germany.

Pre-registered customers in Munich have been able to use the service since Tuesday, July 20.

8,000 products are in the range, which is to be continuously expanded.

In addition to Munich, Knuspr also supplies numerous surrounding communities in the district such as Aschheim, Garching, Graefelfing, Haar, Ismaning, Ottobrunn, Unterhaching and many more.

After Munich, other large cities such as Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Hamburg and Cologne are to follow.

In Austria, the company started under the name Gurkerl in autumn 2020.

Knuspr meets strong delivery competition in Germany

An order must cost at least 29 euros at the market launch in Munich.

The delivery time should be three hours.

Much longer than the fast-growing German delivery service Gorillas, which offers a similar service in most major cities in Germany and should only take 10 minutes.

A triumphant advance for Knuspr, which primarily relies on regional suppliers, is therefore not set in stone.

Amazon has also been offering a delivery service for groceries since 2017, but in addition to the cost of shopping, you also have to pay 7.99 euros per month for Prime membership, without which the service cannot be accessed.

Knuspr, Gorillas and Getir: New delivery service as competition for supermarkets and Amazon

In addition to Amazon, Gorillas and Knuspr, the Turkish provider Getir, which started in Berlin a few weeks ago, is also pushing onto the market.

According to

Chip.de,

the Turkish market leader has

billions of dollars at his disposal for his planned European expansion.

With the ever larger range of delivery services, there are signs of a real battle for market sovereignty.

Who will end up at the top is uncertain.

In the end, however, the customers benefit from the new variety that makes it possible for them to buy groceries without leaving their own home.
