This summer, we will not give up barrier gestures.
Some tourists could even pass it… masked!
However, it has only been a month since the government announced the end of wearing masks outdoors, but that was without counting the explosion of the Delta variant - more than 21,000 cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours .
All over France, some departments have decided to tighten the screws and impose, once again, the wearing of masks outside.
Charge to the prefectures to take measures against the spread of Covid-19.
In the Pyrénées-Orientales, the metropolitan department where the situation is most critical, the prefect has decided to close bars and restaurants from 11 p.m.
But not only: wearing a mask is now compulsory all the time, everywhere, "with the exception of large natural spaces", such as beaches and forests.
The measure decided by the Pyrénées-Orientales is still unprecedented, on the scale of an entire department.
But the Hérault is approaching it.
His prefect announced on Wednesday that the mask would be compulsory from Thursday everywhere in the department, except in four communities of municipalities, less frequented.
In Haute-Corse, where the situation is also critical (and bars and restaurants must also close at 11 p.m.), the prefecture has decided to impose on Friday the wearing of masks in the main towns of the department, in the towns of Calvi , Île Rousse and Saint-Florent. It could be decided in the coming days, when the incidence rate reached 318 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, to extend the measure to the entire department, which is very busy in this season.
Very busy too, Calvados has decided to impose the wearing of masks in several towns in the department. This is the case in Deauville, Honfleur or even Blonville-sur-Mer. In Charente-Maritime, no less than 45 municipalities where wearing a mask is now mandatory, whether there are people or not. Almost all located on the coast, these towns welcome many tourists every summer. In addition to La Rochelle and Royan, all the municipalities of the beautiful Ile de Ré are concerned by this obligation to wear a mask. In other communes of the department, a perimeter has been defined in order to be able to impose the wearing of the mask… Same thing in Vendée where the prefecture has decided to apply the measure in about twenty communes.
The coast does not have a monopoly on returning from wearing a mask. 21 towns of Meurthe-et-Moselle including Nancy - selected because they are in an inter-municipal area where the incidence rate exceeds 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants - must hand it over between 9 am and midnight. In Ariège, 19 municipalities including Foix are housed in the same boat. In Toulouse (Haute-Garonne), the mask is once again compulsory in the center.
Other prefectures, without giving a list of municipalities, have decided to impose the mask… under specific conditions.
Thus, in the Alpes-Maritimes, the mask must be worn "when, given the number of visitors, the physical distance of at least two meters between people cannot be respected, and prolonged contact cannot be avoided".
The same is true in Cantal, where the wearing of a mask is once again compulsory around places of worship, at bus stops and in car parks in shopping areas.
Towards an obligation everywhere?
These measures, changing depending on the municipalities and cities, are reminiscent of the implementation of the obligation to wear a mask last summer. A year ago, city after city, the wearing of the mask was essential. Sometimes giving a micmac like in Paris where the mask was obligatory in certain streets, but was not it in others… Gradually, it had imposed itself everywhere in the country.
