Flood disaster in Ahrweiler: Corona vaccinations for everyone in the vaccination bus

Helpers arrive from everywhere - but nobody can keep their distance and mask when tidying up. Everyone in Ahrweiler can now be vaccinated against the corona virus in a mobile vaccination bus.

The extent of the destruction is still difficult to grasp.

And more and more people are working in the regions affected by the flood disaster to clean up or to help with the care of the people affected.

With fresh water, for example.

Or with power banks and new cell phones that a resident operator of a telecommunications shop who was himself a flood victim gives away to other flood victims.

Aid centers are gradually being set up for those who have lost everything in the catastrophe - like here at the Nürburgring.

Coordinating the mass of willing helpers is not always easy.

The willingness to help is enormous not only with donations in kind.

Many just want to lend a hand.

But there was also this other problem - which, of course, nobody in the disaster area can pay attention to.

That is why there is now an uncomplicated corona vaccination offer in Ahrweiler.

Olav Kullak, Coordinator of the Koblenz Vaccination Center

“You might have to say it clearly: They all swam away here, but unfortunately not this damned virus.

And because people now have to work very, very closely together, there is absolutely no chance of complying with any corona rules.

We must at least try to provide the greatest possible protection through vaccination. "

In particular, many now gratefully accept a spontaneous second vaccination.

Jörg Bruckner, helper from the Frankfurt area

»Yes, I would normally have got my second vaccination appointment tomorrow through the company.

// And the company is in Troisdorf.

I'm here to help for the week now, took extra vacation because of the disaster. "

Silke Pantenburg, from Ahrweiler

»Unfortunately, I missed my own appointment because of my own assignment here in the disaster area.

That's why I am happy and grateful that I now simply have the second vaccination in there.

The vaccination protection will now build up.

In the whole chaos - I think protection is the best that can help us in any way. "

All approved vaccines are on offer here on the bus.

Olav Kullak, mobile vaccination bus Ahrweiler

»So, all who have been here, I have noticed that they are very happy that this one burden that is obviously still in the back of their minds is being taken away from them.

Where do I get this second vaccination from now?

They get that here, there are also many there who have been vaccinated by the family doctor.

That is partly no longer functional.

May everyone come here, we'll vaccinate. "

And all of this in a very unbureaucratic way.

Silke Pantenburg, from Ahrweiler

»I have no ID, I have no vaccination certificate, nothing with me.

It just went like that - thank you very much! "
