No pancakes (Photo: Recipe: Racheli Krot)

Until a few years ago pancakes were a dessert, one that is reserved for special and rare days. Today it really does not have to be that way. The right choice of toppings, fruit-based decorations and a fiber-rich base will make your pancakes not only super tasty but also more beautiful and balanced. Here are all the tricks that will make your pancakes better:

1. Start with

a whole wheat pancake

base

:

Completely or at least partially replace the white flour of the classic pancake with spelled flour or whole grains. Note that when you do this you may need to add some more water to the batter to maintain an airy texture.

Oatmeal pancakes:

A great way to enrich your pancakes even more is to make the whole pancake from oatmeal.

Oatmeal contains dietary fiber that not only aids in digestive activity but will also leave you and your children seventy for longer.

How do you do that?

2 options: Grind the oatmeal into a fine flour and use it to make the pancakes.

Or - add the oatmeal to the batter, without grinding, just make sure to add more liquid depending on the amount of oats you added.

Quinoa Pancakes:

To get quinoa flour all you have to do is grind it.

Although it does not sound like it, quinoa flour pancakes came out very airy and soft and rich in dietary fiber.

2. Colorful toppings from

special spreads: The

fact that we eat with our eyes is known to almost all of us. Colorful and stimulating toppings will make any meal happier. And today it is easy to make them healthy. Mixing strawberries with a little white yogurt in a blender will produce a pink, sweet, natural spread rich in vitamins.

If you or your kids like your pancakes salty - instead of smearing plain white cheese try mixing it with a little boiled beet water. The beet water will color the cheese a stunning dark purple color and with almost no accompanying taste.

If you have a little more time to spend and want to share with the kids you can make blue together. Cook red cabbage in a pot of water on the fire. When the water is red take out the cabbage and reduce the liquid on the gas. Add a little baking soda to your red paint and see how the paint immediately turns a beautiful blue. You can add the blue color to the pancake batter or white yogurt to decorate.

Nuts and almonds:

You should decorate your pancakes with natural nuts and almonds.

To make them more interesting try to grind some varieties and sprinkle them over the pancakes in heart-shaped shapes.

Each nut comes with different nutritional values.

Walnuts contain omega 3 compared to others.

Almonds are a source of calcium and Brazil nuts contain selenium.

Pay attention to the recommended amount of each of the nuts, make sure that there are no allergies and that your children of the appropriate age eat them.

Walnut butter:

You can make almost any walnut butter in a blender in your home or buy it in a store. True, they contain quite a few calories but do not contain added sugar and are therefore better to use. Because they tend to be concentrated a slight infusion will already give a rich flavor. The nut butters contain the nutritional benefits of the nuts from which we made them. Peanut butter for example will contain magnesium and calcium, cashew butter will provide zinc among other things.

Natural Fruits:

I do not know any fruit that does not work with pancakes. Any fruit you combine will do the job. Sweet fruits like banana will blend well with your pancakes as well as berries like blueberries and you will gain extra vitamins and dietary fiber. Try to choose fruits without a sugar coating.

3. No pancakes without maple syrup?

Just because you make your pancakes better does not necessarily mean that they have to be low in calories.

If you are a fan of maple syrup and use it with the right frequency to maintain a healthy diet - this is not a problem.

Choose natural maple syrup without added sugar.

With a rich and dominant flavor so you will only need a little to enjoy its flavor.
