After an alleged racist attack on a Somali in Bad Schlema, Saxony, the public prosecutor's office is investigating three men, including a police officer.
He is accused of failure to provide assistance, while the other two men are suspected of dangerous bodily harm, as the spokeswoman for the Chemnitz public prosecutor said.
The investigation is still in its infancy.
The 20-year-old is said to have been racially attacked and injured in a public bus last Saturday evening.
The attack probably started from a group of eight German men between the ages of 37 and 49.
Two of the men are said to have kicked the man after being insulted.
According to the police, video recordings from the bus had shown that the police officer was not actively involved in this attack, but had not intervened either.
The 39-year-old works for the Zwickau police department, but was not on duty at the time.
Disciplinary proceedings were initially initiated against him.
This was due to the criminal investigation, but for the time being, it said.
The responsible police presidents of Chemnitz and Zwickau, Carsten Kaempf and Lutz Rodig, had condemned the policeman's behavior: "We expect our policemen to prevent crimes from being committed outside of duty, to help clarify them and not look the other way." The driver of the bus had called the police.
