“Pro Evolution Soccer” gets a new coat of paint with “eFootball” as well as new gameplay and new modes.
In addition, the game will be permanently free-to-play.
"PES" is history.
Konami has now officially renamed its big “FIFA” competitor to “eFootball” and is offering the game in the basic version free of charge.
For years, players have been criticizing the fact that sports games like “Pro Evolution Soccer” or “FIFA” only offer a few improvements every year - too few to justify a full price of around 70 euros with each version.
While the price of “FIFA 22” * will not change, Konami is now trying to stand up to its big competitor with the free-to-play model and pick up more players again.
What will still change with “eFootball”?
“EFootball” is free, but DLCs are chargeable
According to the Konami press release, only local matches in
"eFootball"
will initially be
possible.
Further modes are to follow some time later.
At the beginning the
following teams are available
:
FC Bayern Munich
FC Barcelona
Juventus Turin
Manchester United
Arsenal London
Sao Paulo FC
Club Atlético River Plate
Sports Club Corinthians Paulista
Clube de Regatas do Flamengo
Konami says
more teams will
follow.
However, at this point in time it is unclear whether this is part of the paid content and when it will be available.
According to the press release, players should be able to purchase DLCs and thus expand the game according to their own wishes.
Two of the planned modes are known:
"Online Leagues" and "Team Building Mode"
.

“EFootball”: What else is new?
“EFootball” will be based on
Unreal Engine 4
and will no longer use Konami's own Fox Engine. In addition, the developers use a new technology called
"Motion Matching"
, which is supposed to enable four times as many animations as with its predecessors and can thus represent the movements of the virtual footballers more realistically.
"EFootball" will be released for PS5, Xbox Series X / S, PC, PS4 and Xbox One as well as for mobile devices with controller support.
Konami plans
to enable
full
crossplay
so that all players can play against each other regardless of the platform.
“EFootball” should appear in the fall,
but a fixed release date has not yet been set.
