Munich - Our skin needs sufficient care not only in winter, but also in summer.

Anyone who suffers from dry and sensitive skin knows exactly what we are talking about.

But not all products keep their promises and some can even cause the skin to dry out even more.

Öko-Test has therefore tested common face creams.

A total of 20 creams from drug stores, pharmacies, health food stores and supermarkets were examined carefully.

Öko-Test checked the products for problematic substances such as allergy-causing or skin-irritating substances or mineral oils as well as the environmental compatibility of the packaging.

13 products were convincing all round.

Three popular brands, however, could not convince the testers.

Face creams: These four brands rattle through the Öko-Test

“Bebe Gentle Care Sensitive Care” for 3.55 euros, “L'Oréal Hydra Active 3 Moisture Care Day” for 2.95 euros and “Neutrogena Hydro Boost Aqua Creme” for 9.95 euros were rated “unsatisfactory” in the test.

Öko-Test criticizes the fact that all three products contain the UV filters ethyl methoxycinnamate - EHMC for short - and octocrylene.

The two active ingredients can have an influence on the hormonal balance.

According to Öko-Test, the creams from L'Oréal and Neutrogena also contain skin-irritating preservatives and PEGs, i.e. polyethylene glycols.

These polymers weaken the main barrier and make it permeable to pollutants.

Face cream for sensitive skin: It's better to apply the UV protection separately

Anyone who thinks in summer that UV protection in creams can kill two birds with one stone should therefore carefully check the ingredients again.

Öko-Test generally sees UV filters in creams for sensitive skin as "problematic", as these can also irritate the skin.

If you want to protect yourself from the sun, you should also apply sun protection.

Öko-Test: natural cosmetics with the grade "very good"

The front runners in the Öko-Test are primarily products made from certified natural cosmetics.

For example, “Alterra Organic Aloe Vera & Glacier Water Day Cream” or “Alverde Sensitiv 24H Cream Organic Hamamelis Organic Chamomile” were completely convincing to the testers.

They are free from critical ingredients.

Anyone who wants to properly care for dry and sensitive skin in summer should remember that less is more.

Both in the number of care products and in the ingredients.
