There are dozens of fires starting in the western United States and Canada, fueled by an intense drought following high temperatures.

“I have lived in Ashcroft for almost 25 years now and have never seen anything like it,” says Mayor Barbara Roden of this small British Columbia town in western Canada. It is however the very beginning of the fire season but already the firefighters count hundreds of starts of fires in Canada and the United States of which some have become veritable "monsters" of flames. The Tamarack Fire east of Sacramento, the capital of California in the United States, is the latest. It continues to grow until it spreads to the neighboring state of Nevada. Before him, other gigantic fires have reduced thousands of km2 to ashes for ten days. The Dixie Fire in California, the Bootleg Fire in Oregon. In two weeks this last fire consumed the equivalent of the city of Los Angeles in vegetation and forests.“The fire is so big and it creates so much energy that it has started to generate its own climate,” says Marcus Kauffman. According to this member of the state forest management service, the Bootleg Fire "creates its own lightning" and "self-sustains".

"It's a clear reminder that climate change affects us all the time now," said British Columbia Premier John Horgan whether it was a difficult wildfire season, flooding or more of the dome of heat that we have known.

Thousands of residents are evacuated from their homes.

In some areas of Canada the army comes to help to try to contain the fire.

While in the United States, 2,300 firefighters are trying to protect homes.
