Bad Schmiedeberg: 31-year-old woman sets fire to women in the cemetery

A man attacked two elderly women in a cemetery in Bad Schmiedeberg in Saxony-Anhalt. One he knocked over, the other he doused with a liquid and set it on fire.


According to the police and the public prosecutor's office, a 31-year-old man set a woman on fire in a cemetery in the Wittenberg district, who was seriously injured as a result.

He is said to have suddenly run to two women aged 68 and 93 at Bad Schmiedeberg in Saxony-Anhalt on Wednesday, as the investigators said.

The 31-year-old poured a liquid over the younger and set it on fire.

The older one fell.

Witnesses rushed to the aid of the women.

The 68-year-old was taken to hospital in a helicopter with severe burns.

The 93-year-old was slightly injured.

The police immediately arrested the 31-year-old.

At the request of the prosecutor, the man was temporarily placed in a psychiatric hospital on Thursday.

The public prosecutor and the police in Dessau-Roßlau announced that he was being investigated for attempted murder.

At first, the man's motive and whether the women knew him remained unclear.
