India: boulders overwhelm cars, 9 tourists dead

(ANSA) - ROME, JULY 25 - Nine tourists died in northern India after the car they were traveling in was hit by huge boulders fallen from a mountain that caused a bridge to collapse. The BBC reports online. Three others were injured. The incident took place in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. A video posted online shows the moment of rockfall on cars and the collapse of the bridge in the Kinnaur district.


    Some of those killed were from New Delhi and were visiting the popular tourist village of Chitkul, according to the Hindustan Times newspaper. It is not yet clear what caused the accident, but warnings of possible landslides due to heavy rains had been issued. (HANDLE).
