With the participation of Syria, the World School Debating Championship (WSDC) for 2021, organized remotely by the city of Macau in China, was launched today for secondary school students and will continue until the fifth of next August, with the participation of 74 countries.

The Excellence and Creativity Authority stated in a statement that SANA received a copy of it that the Syrian team participating in the tournament consists of four members: “Shaza Ahmed Kuzbari, Anne Marie Nabil Al-Jarash, Amal Abdel Rahman Jallad and Aya Muhammad Saqr,” indicating that Syria’s participation in this year’s world championship is the third of its kind. It comes within the commission's project to popularize and disseminate the culture of debate in the Syrian society and among its youth, to show the real capabilities of Syria's youth in dialogue and persuasion.

The tournament debates are held in the English language and are divided into two phases: a qualifying phase to be held between July 25 and 30, and a final phase to take place between August 1 and 5, 2021.

The debates are based on the principle of competition between two teams. In each debate, one of them supports the topic under discussion and the other denies the same topic, regardless of the personal opinion of the contestants.

Each debate consists of three speeches on an argumentative sentence focusing on a specific issue and each speaker presents a four-minute speech, then each of the two teams presents a three-minute response speech, with the support team giving the last word.
