Frankfurt / Main - On gray days, people tend to go for inconspicuous, even dark clothes. That often reflects the mood. But there are also these moments: In spite of everything, in the morning you consciously decide on a colored outfit in order to do something good for yourself. That is why smileys, funny cartoon characters and colorful flower patterns are currently a

fashion trend

. After all, we are living in a very serious pandemic *.

“One thing is clear:

times are currently rather difficult for most people

.

This fashion trend is deliberately setting an example for more optimism and happiness, ”explains style consultant Andreas Rose from Frankfurt.

“That doesn't just apply to the trends you can find in stores now.

It was the same on the international catwalks of top designers. "

Trendsetters wear cheerful, childlike fashion

Until recently, that was unimaginable, especially among the style-conscious. "It wasn't that long ago that childish, naive fashion ideas were frowned upon - whoever wore them was not really taken seriously," says trend expert Rose.

"That was typically German, however, in other countries there was no such phenomenon."

In the meantime, however, that has also changed in this country. Because for many a fashion fan and trendsetter, happy, childlike fashion is also a piece of rebellion against being too serious in everyday life.

Social moods and fashion are always related.

“On the

one hand, fashion is an expression of one's own identity, but on the other, it is also an expression of the society in which we live,

” explains communication psychologist Prof. Carlo Michael Sommer from Darmstadt.

“Because it's not just about showing who we are, but also about how others see us.

Clothing always has a clear message. ”However, this message does not work over a fashion season, but is a long-term affair.

Influence of the economy on fashion: Comparable to the skirt hem theory

Probably the most famous example of social events and fashion is “

the length of the skirts in the context of economic development,

” says fashion expert Rose. After that, the skirts get shorter when the economy picks up - and vice versa. This so-called skirt hem theory of the economist George Taylor from the 1920s has meanwhile been proven by empirical studies, even if the development takes a certain period of time to take effect. Therefore, the assumption is in the room: smileys, flower or colorful dot patterns as well as everything else cheerful could in the near future increasingly be included in the designs of the designers and also be bought more accordingly.

It is always portable.

“Not every piece, however,” says style expert Andrea Lakeberg from Berlin.

“In a

business look, T-shirts with cheeky slogans don't work at all

.” A generally cheerful motif on the shirt for a classic business suit - for women with pumps - is an option for the working day, says Lakeberg.

Colorful clothing is especially a trend for private life

In private life, on the other hand, the outfit can be more casual.

Especially since in the past year, many people in the pandemic-related home office have fundamentally changed their fashion.

"

And they became

keen

to experiment,

" says Lakeberg.

“You can do a lot with childish and happy trends.” A nice example from the purchasing advisor is the combination of tulle skirt, motif shirt and leather jacket.

Nevertheless, you should always pay a little attention to the overall effect of outfits in your free time

.

And in such a way “that the bottom line is that you don't look like a four-year-old,” says Lakeberg.

"So if you are still unsure whether this look really suits you, you'd better try a few pieces first." And with poise.

Because, as Lakeberg further emphasizes: "Anyone who wears happy, child-like pieces with self-confidence and a certain wink is also taken seriously."
