The first country to face the coronavirus at the end of 2019, the Asian giant has almost eradicated the disease on its soil since the spring of 2020 and life in China has since largely returned to normal.
The Chinese Communist Party welcomed last June its handling of the epidemic, while at the same time reports questioned the official figures of the pandemic in the country.
Sporadic outbreaks of contamination
39 of the 76 new patients announced by the Chinese Ministry of Health were identified in Jiangsu, a province located north of Shanghai, in eastern China.
Thousands of residents of Nanjing, the provincial capital, are currently in confinement after the recent discovery of an epidemic focus at its airport.
And since Sunday, the 9.2 million people living in this metropolis must undergo a second screening test to identify patients who may take longer than usual to show symptoms.
