While France is facing an outbreak of contaminations due to the Delta variant, the pressure on the hospital has so far remained contained.

But the latest figures from Public Health France bear witness to the resumption of the epidemic.

Some 607 Covid-19 patients have been admitted to hospital in the past 24 hours, compared to 92 the day before.

The number of new hospitalizations has almost doubled compared to last Monday (360).

In all, 7,079 patients are now treated for Covid in hospitals, compared to 6,843 on Sunday and 7,041 last Monday.

The number of patients admitted to hospital each day (on average over the past week) is above 300, for the first time since June 12.

In one week, that number has increased by 60%.

At the same time, critical care services received 135 new patients in 24 hours, compared to 16 on Sunday and 76 last Monday.

This number of new 24-hour intensive care admissions had not been so high since the beginning of June.

In total, 952 people are hospitalized in these services which treat the most serious cases, against 886 Sunday and 902 a week ago.

111,688 dead in France

Public Health France also counts 45 deaths that have occurred in hospital in the past 24 hours, bringing the total of deaths to 111,688 since the start of the epidemic in the country.

Cases of contamination have skyrocketed in France for about two weeks.

This Monday, 5,307 new infections were identified, the highest Monday since April 26.

As a reminder, the results of Mondays are underestimated due to the closure of laboratories on weekends.

As of Sunday, 15,242 new cases of Covid-19 had been recorded, against 25,624 on Saturday.

The positivity rate over the last seven days consolidated on D-3, which measures the proportion of positive cases out of the number of people tested, stands, like Sunday, at 4.2% on Monday.

It was 4% Saturday and 2% Sunday July 18.

More than 40 million first-time vaccines

In addition, the milestone of 40 million first-time vaccinated was crossed on Monday, when Parliament has just adopted the bill providing for the extension of the health pass and the vaccination obligation for certain professions such as caregivers ( which should apply mid-September).

🔴 New record: More than 4.8 million injections last week in France.
