(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, 27 JUL - China is allegedly building a second nuclear missile base in the desert about two thousand kilometers west of Beijing.
The discovery, as reported by the New York Times, thanks to satellite images showing work in progress to build at least 110 silos to house and launch ballistic missiles.
In recent weeks, analysts discovered another similar area in the Xinjang region.
These are developments, writes the NYT, which would testify that China is proceeding with a vast expansion of the nuclear arsenal to establish itself more and more as a superpower on a par with the United States and Russia. Although some observers, the newspaper adds, suspect that such realizations, clearly built to be easily discovered, may be part of a plan to make negotiation pressure. (HANDLE).
