After shooting at a celebration in Fort Worth, Texas, party guests followed the alleged perpetrator and killed him with stones.
According to the police, two people were killed and three others were injured in the incident.
The alleged shooter had therefore got into an argument with other people present at a garden party on Monday night and injured at least one of them with gunshots.
Other guests then followed the man and threw cobblestones at him.
The man shot at his pursuers, killing one of them and injuring another.
The alleged perpetrator himself was struck several times with a stone and was later declared dead at the scene of the crime, it said.
A police spokesman warned against wanting to provide gunmen on their own - this should be left to the police.
In the United States, fatal incidents occur repeatedly with weapons that are easy to buy there.
Dozens of people are killed on average every day.
