The work of the commission of inquiry into the assault on Capitol Hill on January 6 by the supporters of Donald Trump has started in the American Congress.
On that occasion, five people lost their lives.
The commission, strongly supported by Nancy Pelosi, represents the final duel between the Democratic speaker of the House and the former American president, after the two impeachments already suffered by Trump.
In the background, the mid-term elections of 2022 and above all the presidential elections of 2024 in which the tycoon could once again stand as a candidate.
The first witnesses to be heard will be four policemen involved in the clashes, which took place on the day Congress was supposed to certify Joe Biden's victory in the presidential elections. The Justice Department then decided that former Trump administration representatives and officials will also be able to testify. But the Republicans, who have done everything to bury the commission and are represented within it by only two critics of the former president, are on a war footing and ready to boycott the work.
