SPIEGEL:
Mr. Regener, with Element of Crime you have already given so-called beach chair concerts in front of an audience sitting in beach chairs in Regensburg and Wiesbaden and you have announced others in Hartenholm not far from Hamburg and Wetzlar.
Do you find Helge Schneider's anger over glasses clinking and people running around understandable?
Regener:
Basically definitely.
Specifically, I can't say anything about it, I wasn't there.
SPIEGEL:
Have you and your fellow musicians from Element of Crime ever got upset about bad or unreasonable performance conditions?
Regener:
Yes.
But rather towards the organizer before or after the gig.
The audience can't help it.
Why should you bother with that?
SPIEGEL:
As an artist, as director Frank Castorf puts it, are you basically a service provider?
Regener:
Service provider is the wrong term.
You don't take orders or commissions before you give a concert.
Buying a ticket is a proof of trust and love.
If you want a service provider, you should call the electrician.
SPIEGEL:
In what state of mind do you and your fellow musicians look forward to the further concerts in front of beach chairs?
Regener:
Very relaxed and full of anticipation.
You have to trust the power of music.
And we don't play in front of beach chairs, we play in front of people who are sitting in beach chairs.
That’s something else again!
