The singer was to perform Wednesday at the Son des guitares, in the port of Toga. But the explosion in the number of contaminations in the department forced the authorities to ban the event.

For the fans, it's a drama.

And for Corsica, a further sign of the worsening of the health crisis affecting the island.

The prefect of Haute-Corse François Ravier announced on Wednesday, a few hours before the event, that the Kendji Girac concert scheduled for the evening in Bastia could not take place.

A decree published in the afternoon simply prohibits it.

"The notoriety of Kendji Girac is likely to generate a gathering of people greater than the capacity of the establishment located very close to the sea",

explains the prefecture.

The establishment Le Son des guitares had planned a full evening around the singer, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. But that was without counting the wave of coronavirus contamination that has submerged the island for several days. In its press release, the prefecture indicates that "

the rapid deterioration of the health situation in the department of Haute-Corse results in an incidence rate of 722 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over the sliding week from July 18, 2021 to July 24, 2021 with a test positivity rate of 7.5% as of July 26, 2021 and an increase in the number of hospitalizations

”. She further specifies that "

in Bastia and the country of Bastia, the incidence rate has been multiplied by more than 3 times in one week to reach an incidence rate of 803 per 100,000 inhabitants on July 26, 2021

”.

Even more worrying, when it comes to an artist so prized by young people, the incidence rate among only 20-29 in Haute Corse is three times higher with 2,575 cases per 100,000 inhabitants last week, up from 142%.

Among 10-19 year olds, it is 1330, according to Public Health France.
