(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV, JUL 28 - The Knesset has mobilized against the ice cream company Ben & Jerry's after it reported that, to remain faithful to its ideals, from the end of 2022 it will not authorize the sale of its products "in occupied Palestinian territories" of the West Bank. Ninety of the 120 members of the Knesset today signed an appeal to Unilever - the British-Dutch company that acquired B & J's - to demand the immediate revocation of that decision which they believe is "shameful and hypocritical". It, they stressed, penalizes not only hundreds of thousands of Israelis residing in the Jewish settlements of 'Judea-Samaria' (the biblical term of the West Bank) but also the Palestinians themselves, as well as the Israeli employees of B & J's.The directives announced this month by B & J's, they warn, then contrast with the laws in force in Israel that prohibit discrimination of customers or geographical areas.
In the meantime, information has appeared in the press according to which the Israeli foreign ministry has also acted discreetly against Unilever. These news have no official confirmation for now. (ANSAmed).
