Storms with heavy rain and gale force gusts covered roofs, damaged buildings and flooded streets in southern Upper Bavaria on Wednesday. The Rosenheim control center reported 119 missions in the district, said a spokeswoman for the district office on Wednesday afternoon. The municipality of Halfing is particularly affected, where the church tower is in danger of collapsing after storm damage. A neighboring kindergarten was cleared and the through traffic was closed.

To be on the safe side, a hotel with around 50 people near the church tower was cleared, as the district office announced.

A structural engineer was on site to examine the church tower.

The expert should examine the Halfinger church tower from the outside from an arm of a lift ladder vehicle of the fire brigade up to 50 meters high.

Around 100 households in the community, which was badly affected by the storm, were also without electricity on Wednesday evening.

Roofs were also damaged in the municipalities of Amerang, Höslwang and Söchtenau during the storm.

Trees fell and cellars were flooded.

According to the Rosenheim district office, there were initially no reports of injuries.

Because of the dangers of falling trees or falling parts of buildings, the authorities warned against driving or walking in the region in the afternoon.

In the neighboring district of Traunstein, trees fell because of the storm, streets were flooded and several cellars were under water.

According to the Traunstein control center, around 180 emergency calls were received due to the storm by Wednesday afternoon.

The municipality of Obing was particularly affected with more than 80 missions.

Injuries were therefore initially not reported.

"We had a very short, intensive emergency call of about three quarters of an hour," said the managing director of the Traunstein control center, Josef Gschwendner, on Wednesday afternoon.

"We are still working hard here, but nothing more is added."

It was only on Monday that heavy rain in Bavaria led to flooding and numerous fire services.
