BARI - In its 24th edition it wants to speak especially to the youngest, to those who have suffered most from the restrictions of lockdowns.

For this reason, the Notte della Taranta has chosen to entrust the direction of the Concertone, on 28 August in Melpignano (Lecce), to the 19-year-old singer-songwriter Madame, symbol of "a fluid generation", and to the 44-year-old conductor Enrico Melozzi, who has conquered the latest edition of Sanremo with the Maneskin.

The message to convey is the "value of freedom", the one that the pandemic has stolen from us and that music has always tried to give back.

"I ventured to write the 'Pizzica della liberazione', both the music and the text that will now be 'Salentinized'", explains Melozzi: "My idea was to dedicate this piece to a sort of liberation from what we musicians are experiencing. , all citizens and those who have to manage this pandemic. There will be a huge rock component, there will be a lot of dancing and not doing it with a normal presence of the public gnaws at me ". Madame is already "very excited" and hopes to succeed in her "enterprise: at the rhythm of pizzica, mixing various genres such as rock, rap and classic - he assures - we will find a way to communicate the message of 2021". The intention of the organizers and the institutions supporting the event is to allow a return to normality, "because we do not want to stop living "explains the governor Michele Emiliano:" La Taranta is an exorcism, a wish, a dream, an event that we will do with all the precautions provided by the government and the extra ones we deem necessary ".

In Melpignano the public will be there, guarantees the president of the La Notte della Taranta Foundation, Massimo Manera, but the 150 thousand fans of the past few years will not be seen dancing to the hypnotic rhythm of the tambourines, plucked by the "spider that purifies and heals". On the number of participants, who will still have to sit and spaced apart, the debate between the authorities is still open. Surely they will have to access with the 'green pass' or a negative buffer that probably can also be done at the entrance. The path that precedes the Concertone, as always, will be the traveling Festival, from 4 to 26 August, which this year also lands in other cities including Alberobello and Taranto. And it focuses on the suburbs. A thousand people with a 'green pass' can access the eveningsor a negative swab performed within the previous 48 hours.

The Festival will host more than 400 artists, 35 concerts and the party for the thirtieth anniversary of Sud Sound System. It starts on 4 August from Corigliano d'Otranto with the homage of the Popular Orchestra to Daniele Durante, the artistic director of the recently deceased Concertone. "Let's go back to meet the public despite the times are not entirely favorable - explains Luigi Chiriatti, artistic director of the Festival - to support the popular music sector hard hit by Covid and fill up with positive energy". This edition of the Concertone will be broadcast for the first time on Rai1, on 4 September, at 10.30pm.
