The nationwide 7-day incidence is currently rising steadily again.

Nevertheless, the retail trade remains open in large parts of Germany.

Munich - In the last year and a half of the corona pandemic, it was not easy for many businesses that do not belong to the basic supply.

Lots of strict lockdowns, ups and downs in the number of customers and hardly any security.

This has also been a major problem for hardware stores such as Obi, Hagebau and Hornbach.

But the situation has eased noticeably again in the last few months.

Currently, all hardware stores in the country are allowed to be open under certain conditions.

But that could change soon: If you look at the 7-day incidences in Lüneburg and the Berchtesgadener Land, you might think that there would be stronger restrictions again very soon.

The two districts currently top the list with the highest incidences in Germany with values of 62.5 and 62.3 respectively (as of July 29, 2021).

Since the nationwide emergency brake expired on June 30th and was not extended, the individual federal states have regained the authority to decide on the corona measures.

Hardware store rules from August 1st: Incidence is increasing - shops will soon be closed again?

In Lower Saxony, for example, stricter regulations apply in districts with a 7-day incidence over 50 according to the tiered plan. In retail - for example in hardware stores - with a sales area of over 200 square meters, a negative test certificate must be presented in order to be able to go shopping. In shops that do not belong to the necessary basic supply and have less than 800 square meters of sales area, the operators must also calculate at least 20 square meters per person. With a sales area of over 800 square meters, even an area of 40 square meters per person.

In Bavaria, a decision is currently only made between two levels: a 7-day incidence below and one above the value of 50. In the Berchtesgadener Land, the regulations for over 50 apply accordingly. No negative test certificates are provided for retailers here. The restrictions are only based on the retail space. A shop with a retail space of less than 800 square meters is allowed to let in one customer for every 10 square meters. In shops with a larger sales area, double the space must be calculated for each customer.
