While it begins to investigate alleged cases of Delta variant by community circulation in the City, the Ministry of Health of the Nation reported this Friday

another 474 deaths and 13,483 new infections

of coronavirus in the country.

This is the highest number of fatalities for a day since last July 14, when 610 deaths were reported.

Thus, Argentina accumulates 4,919,408 infected and 105,586 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Of the last deceased, 246 resided in the province of Buenos Aires, 57 in Santa Fe, 32 in Catamarca, 17 in Mendoza, 15 in Córdoba, 13 in Salta;

eleven in the City of Buenos Aires and Misiones;

new in La Pampa and San Juan;

eight in Entre Ríos, seven in Río Negro;

six in Jujuy, La Rioja and Tucumán;

five in Chaco and San Luis;

four in Formosa and Santiago del Estero;

two in Chubut and one in Corrientes.

The alarms for the increase in positives from Delta were lit in the last hours, when a traveler arrived in Córdoba with the strain native to India and

infected at least 13 people.

There are also 160 isolated, but the authorities warned that the number could increase.

And prevention protocols were activated in four schools.

The Secretary of Health, Gabriela Barbás, informed the press that "intense work is being done to isolate" this new variant, and "

follow-ups and traces"

are being carried out

on more than 200 people

for contacts with case zero and the 14 people detected that were infected.

According to the national government, the 62-year-old traveler arrived from Lima on July 19, 2021 at Jorge Newbery Airport with a negative test before the flight.

In the last hours, several cases of the Delta variant were detected in different parts of the country.

On July 21, the control, telephone follow-up was carried out and the testing corresponding to the seventh day was scheduled.

On July 26, the discharge test was performed and the result was positive.

After the epidemiological investigation, it was identified that the case had contact with non-cohabiting relatives during the period in which it had to be isolated, and that since then 14 positive cases have been detected in associated relatives so far, of which 13 have identification of variant Delta and one has yet to be identified.

For this reason, the authorities of the Ministry of Health made the criminal complaint in the Fiscal Unit of Sanitary Emergencies (UFES) for the initiation of the corresponding legal actions, and to determine the responsibility and possible violation of the quarantine on the part of the traveler involved.

In Salta, a similar case

More than 20 people were isolated in Salta, as a preventive measure, due to being in close contact with an athlete who returned from Europe in early July and tested positive for the Delta variant, so now the health authorities await the results of the corresponding studies .

This was reported this Friday by the provincial Minister of Public Health, Juan José Esteban, who pointed out that "in Salta the patient completed the isolation but unfortunately the negative of the first instance confused and when the symptoms began, the swab and the PCR were done, in addition to genomic sequencing, and it was positive for (the variant) Delta ”.

In statements to FM Aries radio, Esteban explained that, until that moment, the patient "had already infected his wife and daughter, and had had a series of contacts, which are practically 20, which have also been isolated."

The Government of Salta had confirmed the appearance of the first patient with the Delta variant in the province, when it reported that it was an adult athlete who returned from Europe in the first half of July, after which he was subjected to mandatory isolation, according to what is established by the sanitary protocol.

The person was swabbed at the Ezeiza International Airport, after his arrival in Argentina, and the result of the first test was negative.

Argentina already has more than 4.9 million cases and 105 thousand deaths.

Then, the patient manifested some symptoms compatible with coronavirus, for which a new swab was performed with a positive result.

"Unfortunately, today

we have a red map of many contacts of this man

and we are awaiting the results of their genomic sequencing," explained the minister.

Likewise, he maintained that "in any case, all the controls and the corresponding follow-ups are done, and the idea is to enclose the epidemiological situation of this family, in such a way that the situation does not get out of hand."

“It is possible that we are already in the situation that Córdoba is going through.

That is what worries and occupies us.

We have the Epidemiology Coordination permanently aware of this specific situation ”, concluded Esteban.
