Energetic, resilient or melancholy, these are the three identikits that describe how Italians age and how they relate to the passing years.

Outlining the categories is a research carried out by Doxa Pharma for Nutricia FortiFit, through online interviews with 500 Italians over 60 years old.

The 'Perennials' represent 40% of the sample, are 70 years old on average, are slightly predominantly men (54% and 46% women) and their key word is vitality. They have a proactive attitude towards life, love to seek out new experiences and feel full of energy.

69% of them use digital means to explore new places and knowledge, 63% are attentive to what they eat and 40% do sports regularly. They experience the "third age" as an opportunity to do what they have never had the opportunity to do before. Even the Silver Lines (from silver, or silver, the hair color of seniors) represent 40% of the sample, they are on average 70 years old, they are mostly men (55% and 45% women) but their key word is resilience. They keep themselves dynamic especially by taking care of social relationships, physical activity and nutrition. 68% of them use digital means to stay in touch with family and friends, 62% try to keep moving and 33% are a point of reference for their family and regularly look after their grandchildren.

The remaining 20% of the sample is represented by Gloomers (from gloom, a mood similar to melancholy), who are on average 75 years old, are largely women (68% and 32% men) and their key word is disengagement. . They accuse the passing of the years and experience advanced age with fatigue. 38% have someone who helps them with their daily activities and 30% have a cell phone but only use it for phone calls. The feelings associated with the future are associated with worry and despondency. "These results show how, over time, the concept of old age has changed. Today - says Andrea Parachini of Doxa Pharma - we are talking about 'healthy aging', a broad concept that starts from an attitude to take care of one's health. Never like now we have realized that it is essential to be able and to know how to age well ". (HANDLE).
