Investigators in Nederweert have discovered "the largest and most professional crystal meth production facility ever found in the Netherlands."
This was announced by the city police.
The police had tracked down the laboratory in the province of Limburg via encrypted chat reports.
A 62-year-old man from Poland was arrested.
The police are not ruling out further arrests.
High potential for dependency
According to the information, more than 100 kilograms of the synthetic drug methamphetamine - also known as crystal meth - could be produced in the laboratory.
The commercial value of this corresponds to around one million euros.
The laboratory was said to be in two connected storage rooms.
It is unclear how long it had been in production there.
The police seized chemicals and equipment.
Methamphetamine has a stimulating effect for hours and suppresses feelings of fear.
The drug is highly addictive and can permanently damage nerve cells in the brain.
Affected people suffer from paranoia, depression and cannot sleep for days.
