The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Friday that the

Delta strain is not more lethal than the other variants

of the coronavirus, although it is more contagious.

According to Maria van Kerkhove, who is in charge of monitoring Covid-19 at a technical level for the WHO, there were no higher mortality rates due to the coronavirus due to the Delta variant, although it is 50% more contagious.

Some countries have seen more hospitalizations, but not higher mortality due to the Delta variant, van Kerkhove added.

According to the British medium

The Guardian

, the main expert in emergencies of the WHO, Mike Ryan, also specified that the vaccines approved by that organization continue to be effective against the disease, despite the evidence in different studies that their protection is lower against the variant first detected in India.
