(ANSA) - ATHENS, AUGUST 01 - The number of people injured in the huge forest fire that has been advancing since yesterday in the north-west of the Peloponnese, in southern Greece, not far from the city of Patras, has increased to eight.
So far about twenty houses have been destroyed and five villages have been evacuated.
This morning at dawn nearly 300 firefighters, with 77 trucks, two fire planes and five helicopters, returned to the front line to try to put out the flames.
The fire also caused huge traffic jams yesterday.
The main highway connecting Corinth to Patras has been closed to traffic, as has the RionAntirion bridge which connects the Peloponnese with mainland Greece.
