The SUD Santé Social union calls for an indefinite strike, denouncing the obligation for caregivers to be vaccinated from September 15.

"We are not against vaccination but it must remain a free choice"

, insists Jean-Marc Devauchelle - secretary general of the SUD social health federation.

The union called for an indefinite nationwide strike from August 4, against the compulsory vaccination of caregivers.

All personnel in this sector should be vaccinated from September 15.

From that date, it will be possible to suspend the

“employment contract”

of a person who does not respect the obligation, explained the Minister of Labor, Élisabeth Borne on July 13 on LCI.

"It is once again to bring the upsurge in contaminations and deaths from Covid-19 in hospital to the nursing staff",

denounces Jean-Marc Devauchelle who campaigns to leave the right to doubt to caregivers.

“For my part, I decided to get vaccinated last Monday and I actually hesitated for a long time.

But it is a personal choice, I do not encourage anyone and our federation does not have the will to impose either, ”he

indicates.

“We are always reluctant when we have no knowledge of a particular product. We know full well that any injection involves a risk and we do not have enough hindsight as we could have in the case of taking a Doliprane or other vaccines, ”he

explains, recalling that the union does not want to be equated with the anti-vaccine movement.

"But we can find ourselves with those who protest against the health pass and the vaccination obligation,"

adds Jean-Marc Devauchelle.

The trade unionist is also worried about the consequences of this obligation on the morale of nursing staff and the resignations it could cause.

“Of course there will be.

It remains to be seen if it will be on the margins or if there will be a lot.

I would be unable to say if there will be a hemorrhage again as there has been in recent months, ”

he points out.

Local strike calls

In addition to the call for a national strike, several local branches of SUD Santé have also issued notices of an indefinite strike from August 4, as in the Bouches-du-Rhône in Marseille.

"We want to start our demands from the grassroots and be heard by the regional health directorate (ARS) so that it can bring them up,"

explains Kader Benayed, departmental secretary of SUD Santé in the Bouches-du-Rhône. The strike notice was submitted to the Assistance publique - Hôpitaux de Marseille (AP-HM) and to the Edouard-Toulouse hospital. Two rallies are also planned by the union in front of the IHU at La Timone and in front of the North hospital.

In Lyon also, an indefinite strike has started since July 29 against the vaccination obligation of caregivers.

The same is true in Corsica where it is the CGT of the Bastia hospital center which has called a strike since July 30.

The Constitutional Council will rule on August 5 on the law relating to the management of the health crisis.

The latter provides for the vaccination obligation for certain professions including caregivers as well as the extension of the health pass adopted on July 25 by Parliament.
