On Sunday morning around four o'clock there was a serious accident on Autobahn 46 in North Rhine-Westphalia.
According to the police, a 28-year-old Golf driver lost control of his car while racing in an Audi R8 in the driveway of the Hagen motorway junction.
The golf driver was thrown at high speed through the central guardrail onto the main lane.
The engine of his car was thrown out in the accident and landed on the opposite lane.
The five occupants of the Gulf were seriously injured.
They are said to be between 16 and 28 years old.
The 27-year-old Audi driver initially fled the scene of the accident, but returned a little later, it was said.
A doctor and a patrol from the motorway police came by by chance at the accident site and provided help.
The injured were taken to hospitals.
The A46 was closed for several hours.
The police started investigations into participating in an illegal race, among other things.
Investigations are also underway for violating the Weapons Act and the Narcotics Act.
Police had seized a loaded alarm gun, knife and narcotics in the Gulf.
Both vehicles were seized and towed away.
The police estimate the property damage to the Gulf at 45,000 euros.
