The slowness to vaccinate against the
coronavirus
sometimes has to do with the
ineffective logistics
of the State and others, with the resistance or laziness of some sectors of the population to inoculate themselves.
In Argentina a bit of both happens, although the incidence of the first factor is greater.
In the last week, two initiatives were known, one in Mendoza and the other in Chubut, which seek to seduce
those who get vaccinated
with a
prize
.
Just as in the United States they give 100 dollars to those who loosen their arms for the puncture, in Argentina they raffle whale sightings or give away wine and beer in restaurants.
Mendoza is located in the national context as one of the
most delayed
provinces
in the vaccination campaign.
Together with Chubut, they appear below the national average, both in terms of first and second doses applied.
Those two provinces, however, are not the worst performing in the country.
Clarín
did a survey, district by district, to find out which ones are
better and less
prepared to face the challenge of the Delta variant, whose community circulation for two known cases in the City already seems to be a fact.
The first salient data is the
strong immune gap
that exists depending on whether you live in one province or another.
Some
double others
in second dose coverage.
There are also wide differences regarding the consolidation of the first doses.

It is based on what experts consider an
essential condition
to face the third wave of Covid: that people have complete vaccination schedules, since the Delta variant is
60 percent more transmissible
due to its high viral load. .
The national average indicates, until July 31, that the coverage of first doses is
55 percent
of the population and
15 percent
, with second.
In addition, only 28 percent of those who were vaccinated received the two planned doses.
From the analysis province by province, based on data from the Public Vaccination Monitor, it appears that
the porteños
are the ones who have received the most first doses, with a proportion of
66 percent
of the inoculated population.
While in second doses the first place is for
La Pampa
, with
23 percent
until the end of July.
At the other end of the table of positions is located
Misiones
, with the worst performance of first doses, by averaging
38 percent
;
and
Salta
, with the worst second dose indicator, since it has managed to reach only
11 percent
of its population.
The provinces that are
above or equal to
the national average in
first doses
with respect to their population are: City (66%), La Pampa (60%), San Luis (60%), La Rioja (58%), Neuquén ( 58%), Río Negro (58%), Santa Fe (58%), Santiago del Estero (58%), Catamarca (56%), Córdoba (56%), Formosa (56%), Tierra del Fuego (56% ), Buenos Aires (55%) and San Juan (55%).

Below
are Mendoza (53%), Jujuy (52%), Tucumán (52%), Chubut (50%), Corrientes (50%), Entre Ríos (50%), Santa Cruz (49%), Salta ( 47%), Chaco (46%), Misiones (38%).
Between the Federal Capital and Misiones there are
28 percentage points
of difference in coverage.
The deficit does not have to do with the availability of vaccines (the distribution criterion is proportional to the number of inhabitants of each place), but with the
speed
with which each provincial State applies them.
As for the
second doses
, La Pampa has already vaccinated 23 percent of its population.
They are followed by City (22%), San Luis (22%), Córdoba (17%), Neuquén (17%), La Rioja (16%), Santa Cruz (16%), Santa Fe (16%), Tierra del Fuego (16%), Tucumán (16%), Río Negro (15%) and San Juan (15%).
Below the national average are Buenos Aires (14%), Chubut (14%), Corrientes (14%), Formosa (14%), Jujuy (14%), Santiago del Estero (14%), Catamarca (13%) , Chaco (13%), Entre Ríos (13%), Mendoza (13%), Misiones (12%) and Salta (11%).
Between La Pampa and Salta
there are 12 percentage points
of difference in the coverage of their populations, which in this case means
double
.
That is to say, in this month of August that begins, in which the second doses will supposedly accelerate -according to the Government-, Pampas and Salta are located in
very unequal starting points
.

The most delayed provinces are those with the largest "idle stocks" of doses, while those with the highest coverage of immunized inhabitants are those with
almost no vaccines stored
in the refrigerators.
Is there a
relationship
between the number of vaccines applied and the impact that the second wave has had in each province?
Clarín
took the
April-July four-month period
as a parameter
and that link in some cases is confirmed, but varies according to the district.
Misiones, for example, which is the province that in proportion has applied the least first doses, has had a strong increase in Covid cases in that period, of
150 percent
, when the average increase at the national level has been
109
percent. cent
.
In the province of Buenos Aires there is a coincidence between the coverage averages in vaccination with the national ones and the growth of cases has been
100 percent
.
In the City, where there are better vaccination rates than in the country, the rise in infections has been
88 percent
.
But the logic is not always fulfilled: La Pampa and San Luis, which appear in the elite of the provinces that best vaccinate, have had a strong acceleration of infections in the last four months,
190 and 236 percent
respectively. That is, vaccination is part of the solution, but not the whole solution. Strictly speaking, today's vaccines
prevent more
the possibility of serious illness and death than the chance of becoming infected and contagious.
This
immune gap
that exists within the borders of Argentina - which the central government observes and for now does not support - the entire country suffers.
at the same time,
with respect to the world
: nations that with a higher proportion of second doses applied (some are already placing a third) are
better prepared
to face the Delta variant.
In Europe or the United States, the second dose level is
more than 50 percent
.
In our region, Uruguay has
64 percent
of its population vaccinated with two doses.
It is followed by Chile (63%), Colombia (23%) and Brazil (19%).
Peru is like Argentina, with 15 percent.
Regarding first doses, in South America only Uruguay and Chile surpass Argentina.
