“I have to tell you something,” US comedian Kathy Griffin begins her latest Instagram post in a conversational tone - only to get straight to the point: “I have cancer.
I'm about to have an operation to remove half of my left lung. "
Although she has never smoked herself, she has lung cancer, the 60-year-old continues.
However, the treating doctors are "very optimistic" because she is in the early stages of the disease.
"Hopefully I won't need chemo or radiation afterwards and my breathing should work normally," says Griffin.
She hopes to be able to go back to her previous life in about a month.
Griffin works as a comedian, actress, producer and voice actress.
She has received numerous prizes for her work.
In 2007 and 2008 she received the Emmy for Outstanding Reality Formats for the third and fourth seasons of her show "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List".
Griffin had only been diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago.
In an interview with ABC, which broadcasts local time on Monday evening, she explains that she is "still a little bit in shock."
In the conversation with ABC, the artist will talk about mental health, her former drug addiction, a suicide attempt and her new, healthier and more conscious life, according to the broadcaster.
