Here they are again!
Or rather, there he is again.
Thomas Bangalter, one of the two ex-Daft Punk, will soon be back on the music scene.
But maybe not where we expected.
We will find him at the Opéra de Bordeaux in a year.
The musician who made his career in techno became a composer for choreographer Angelin Preljocaj.
The work entitled "Mythologies" will be given in a year at the Opéra national de Bordeaux (ONB), announced the cultural establishment which already specifies that the performances will take place from July 1 to 10, 2022.
The project was born "about a year and a half ago", well before the surprise self-dissolution in February 2021 of the famous duo announced via a video posted on YouTube, specifies Olivier Lombardie, general administrator of the ONB.
Angelin Preljocaj, who had already worked with Daft Punk on electro music, suggested that Thomas Bangalter compose ballet music for him this time around.
Break the codes
"He wanted to change register, he really wanted to try to move on, to rub shoulders with the symphonic orchestration and that's how the collaboration began", continues the head of the Bordeaux opera house.
“He got down to it right away, he started to offer compositions, little by little it grew (…) We are delighted, very excited, it corresponds exactly to what we wanted: to break down the borders, breaking the codes, showing that a symphony orchestra can play current music by a contemporary composer, ”enthuses Olivier Lombardie, hoping to bring“ a new audience ”to the opera.
It is the young assistant conductor Romain Dumas, who will be at the helm.
On stage, they will be about twenty dancers from Angelin Preljocaj's company and from the Bordeaux Opera ballet for this choreography organized in "several pieces on the great themes of Greek and ancient mythology".
With Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, Thomas Bangalter formed the most famous French electro group. The most famous anonymous in the world because their faces were hidden under a mask. They separated after thirty years of collaboration marked by planetary hits including "Around the world", "Get Lucky", "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" or even "One more time" or "Alive".
