And they tried to break through the grates that block access to the perimeter of the parliament building, in Place de l'Etoile. Clashes erupted when groups of Lebanese anti-government protesters attempted to break into the super-fortified parliament area in central Beirut, not far from where thousands of people gathered today to commemorate the first anniversary of the devastating explosion of the port of Beirut in the which more than 200 people died. Therefore,hundreds of people are gathering in the nearby Piazza dei Martiri to continue the anti-government demonstration that coincided with the commemoration for the disaster of 4 August 2020.
