While the Government confirmed that it will begin to combine Sputnik V vaccines with doses of Moderna and AstraZeneca, the Ministry of Health of the Nation reported this Wednesday that another 300 deaths and 13,736 new cases of coronavirus were registered in Argentina in the last 24 hours.
With these new figures, the country reached 4,975,616 infections and 106,747 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
Argentina remains the eighth country with the highest number of coronavirus infections.
It is surpassed by the United States, India, Brazil, Russia, France, the United Kingdom and Turkey.
In addition, it is one of the 11 nations that
exceeded 100,000 deaths
from the pandemic.
According to Johns Hopkins University, Brazil (557,223), Mexico (241,279), Peru (196,518) and Colombia (121,216) are the other Latin American countries that appear on that list.
In the last 24 hours, according to the official report, 3,748 people were admitted to intensive care.
Meanwhile, the occupancy of ICU beds for all pathologies is 53.8% at the national level and 52.6% at the AMBA level.
The promise from Russia
In the midst of the controversy over the delay in the shipment of the second component of Sputnik V, Russia said on Wednesday that "a large increase in production capacity" will allow it to resolve "completely the delays" this month.
"The Sputnik V team confirms that in August all temporary delays in the delivery of the second component of the vaccine will be completely resolved. This is due to the large increase in the production capacity of the vaccines," they reported through of a statement.
The possibility of considerably increasing production was ratified by Russia after the signing of manufacturing agreements with different countries.
"Sputnik V has established production agreements with manufacturers in 14 countries and will double its capacity in September thanks to the partnership with large firms such as the Serum Institute of India, the largest producer of vaccines in the world," it adds in the text.
