The New York auction house Sotheby's has auctioned shoes from Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman.
The white sports shoes with studs come from the 1960s and have a red arrow on the side, which later became the trademark of the manufacturer in a slightly modified form.
Sotheby's had hoped for a record sum of up to 1.2 million dollars - instead, the shoes brought in 315,000 dollars (around 265,000 euros).
The pair of sports shoes, made by Bowerman, was sold at the opening of an online auction entitled "The Olympic Collection," which took place on the occasion of the Olympic Games.
The auction items also included a pair of Converse Fastbreak sneakers worn by US basketball star Michael Jordan during the 1984 Olympic qualifying round in Los Angeles.
The estimated value for the couple was between $ 80,000 and $ 100,000.
However, the shoes did not find a buyer, as the auction house confirmed to the AFP news agency.
