WHO has appealed to postpone the third dose of the coronavirus vaccine "at least until the end of September" so as to allow the immunization "

of at least 10% of the population of each country" in the world

.

"We urgently need to change things: from a majority of vaccines going to rich countries to a majority going to poor countries," said UN agency director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in the usual Covid briefing in Geneva.

"Comprehensive vaccination - ECDC and EMA underline in the meantime - offers a great level of protection against serious illness and death caused by the Sars-Cov-2 virus, including its variants such as the Delta". "Although the effectiveness of vaccines is very high, none are 100%. A limited number of infections in those who have completed the course are expected. However, the vaccine, when infection occurs, can prevent serious illness."

Ema and Ecdc recommend, in a note, full vaccination for all citizens for whom it has been approved, but until more people are immunized, and with the virus still circulating, "everyone should adhere to national standards and continue with protective measures such as masks and spacing, including who has completed the vaccination cycle ". For Mike Catchpole, chief scientist of the ECDC "the risk is not behind us. We are seeing an increase in the number of cases in the EU, and the vaccine remains the best possible option to avoid an increase in serious cases and deaths".
