The successful cartoonist Martin Perscheid, who is admired for his black humor, is dead. After a long illness, he dies at the age of 55.

Wessling / Oldenburg - Anyone who suddenly has to shake with laughter, but afterwards perhaps ponders, has probably just seen a cartoon by Martin Perscheid.

Black humor was a trademark of the cartoonist - it has now been announced that Germany's king of fun died of cancer on the night of July 31st.

Perscheid was only 55, for years he also drew for tz.

He created thousands of cartoons with his often stout, bulbous-nosed protagonists.

Often enough, his drawings were completely politically incorrect - but just funny.

Perscheid crossed boundaries by drawing, which made the viewer laugh loudly and heartily, maybe even at himself. He aimed sometimes at fat people, sometimes at thin ones, and also liked to devote himself to clichés of women and men.

Sometimes his cartoons were shoddy, sometimes bitter, seldom easy to digest.

He didn't just want to play with his cartoons, he wanted to bite.

Where it hurts and where others prefer to duck away.

Antje Haubner, program manager at the Oldenburger Lappan Verlag

“Martin Perscheid's humor wasn't refreshing, it was black.

He didn't just want to play with his cartoons, he wanted to bite.

Where it hurts and where others prefer to duck away, ”said the program manager of the Oldenburger Lappan Verlag, Antje Haubner, on Thursday in a nutshell.

Mourning cartoonist Martin Perscheid (55) - "The man was brilliant for decades"

Many of his colleagues also reacted with dismay to the sad news.

“I hear on Deutschlandfunk that Martin Perscheid has died.

Crap.

The man was brilliant for decades.

The cartoons are and will remain so, ”posted comic author Ralf König (“ The Moving Man ”).

Cartoonist Ralph Ruthe wrote that Perscheid died much too early.

This is "just infinitely sad".

Born in Wessling near Cologne, the Rhinelander lived and worked in his homeland until his death. "After a long illness, he lost the battle against cancer on the night of July 31," the press release said. (tz / dpa)
