The Secretary of State in charge of Tourism Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne also wished to reassure the foreign students who plan to come in

The government is finally responding to the concerns of tourists.

A device allowing those vaccinated outside the European Union to obtain a health pass will be set up, announced Thursday the Secretary of State for Tourism Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne.

"Our goal is that from August 9 these tourists present on national soil can obtain passes on the same model as the French living outside France", he declared on France Inter.

"We are setting up a dedicated scalable system that will ramp up to meet these demands," he added without giving further details.

In addition, Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne wished to reassure foreign students by announcing that "the principle is established that we will welcome international students who are registered in the establishments".

"We will announce in the coming days the practical modalities that will allow them to come," he added.

Target 50 million tourists

This decision was awaited by the many people vaccinated outside the European Union who did not know what would be allowed them to do in France with the extension of the health pass.

This also goes in the direction of the government, which posts a target of 50 million tourists in France this summer, even if these travelers are for the moment mainly European.

It will undoubtedly be necessary to count without the Chinese tourists, who usually come in droves in the summer: China announced Wednesday a tightening of the restrictions on the movements abroad of its nationals.

Since Monday, the government has put in place a system so that French expatriates living outside the European Union and vaccinated abroad "with vaccines recognized by the European Medicines Agency" can obtain a special health pass. There are currently four vaccines: Pfizer, Moderna, Janssen and AstraZeneca. The opinion of the Constitutional Council on the health bill is expected this Thursday afternoon and the extension of the health pass to cafes, restaurants, fairs, trade shows, air travel or long train journeys is scheduled for Monday.
