The caregivers "have the feeling of being a bit like before a tsunami", confided the Minister of Health Olivier Véran traveling to Aix-en-Provence.

“That is to say, when you have the feeling that the wave is withdrawing, that the birds are no longer singing and that we are waiting for the moment when the water will fall,” he continues.

This shows how much the authorities expect the situation in hospitals to deteriorate in the coming days.

While the health pass has just been dubbed by the Constitutional Council, allowing "the full deployment of the strategy to fight against Covid-19", the latest epidemic figures released this Thursday evening indeed confirm that the number of patients taken in load in the hospital is on the rise.

This Thursday, the health authorities identified 8,210 Covid patients treated in French hospitals, against 8,134 on Wednesday and 7,236 last week.

In the past 24 hours, 712 new Covid patients have been treated in French hospitals.

The number of daily deaths on the rise

Of this total, 1,420 patients have a severe form of the disease that requires management in critical care services.

The trend is also negative.

They were 1371 Wednesday and 1015 seven days ago.

150 new patients have been admitted to these specialized services in the past 24 hours.

In the past 24 hours, 52 people have died from the disease in French hospitals.

The number of daily deaths is now up sharply, by 70% over one week.

The country had an average of 48 daily deaths over the past seven days.

A level that remains well below previous peaks.

The vaccination campaign continues in the country. 44,051,833 people received at least one injection (or 65.3% of the total population) and 36,594,069 people now have a complete vaccination schedule (or 54.3% of the total population). According to provisional data made public by the Directorate General of Health, 592,520 injections have been carried out in the past 24 hours.
