After heavy rain, South Tyrol is now fighting against floods.

In the popular holiday region in northern Italy, roads, including the Brenner State Road, had to be closed due to landslides.

In Klausen, the civil defense warned of flooding during the night because the Eisack river had overflowed its banks.

Residents should drive cars from underground garages and make preparations, the fire department said.

Brixen was also affected by floods.

According to civil protection, the fire brigade was deployed nationwide with around a thousand men and women.

The second highest of four warning levels applied.

A person had to be rescued during the night at the confluence between Talfer and Eisack north of Sterzing.

He was taken to hospital with hypothermia, the fire department announced.

The Etsch in the Unterland is also in flood, the situation is tense, according to the fire brigade.

Storms also caused problems on Lake Garda.

Masses of mud pushed into a hotel in Limone sul Garda.

Only the dining rooms are affected, the guests can stay in their rooms, said a hotel employee.

The Ansa news agency reported that a hundred guests had to be brought to safety during the night.

So there were no injuries.
