Martha Argerich gives up her concert at the Salzburg festival for "health reasons"

The 80-year-old pianist was to give a concert alongside French violinist Renaud Capuçon. She was replaced at a moment's notice by the German Igor Levit.

Pianist Martha Argerich has canceled

“for health reasons”

her concert scheduled for Tuesday at the Salzburg festival.

The information was announced on Friday by the organizers of the prestigious Austrian event dedicated to music, opera and theater, which is celebrating its hundredth anniversary this year.

No information has filtered out about the health problem that forced the Argentinian pianist naturalized Swiss, who celebrated her 80th birthday on June 5, to give up this eagerly awaited concert.

Martha Argerich should have played alongside French violinist Renaud Capuçon.

“The Salzburg Festival is sorry to announce that Martha Argerich has to announce her concert as a soloist alongside Renaud Capuçon on Tuesday August 3 at the Haus für Mozart (House of Mozart) for health reasons

, explains the organization in a press release.

The festival would have liked so much to celebrate the eightieth birthday of this great pianist with her. "

Instead of Martha Argerich, the German pianist of Russian origin Igor Levit performed alongside the French violinist.

Given the little margin the musician had for rehearsals, the festival preferred to change its programming.

The sonatas of Schubert, Schumann and Strauss initially planned have therefore been replaced by those of Beethoven, Brahms and Schubert.
