He created over 4,300 drawings under the title »Perscheid's abysses« and became one of the most famous cartoonists in Germany.
Martin Perscheid has now died at the age of 55.
Lappan Verlag and Caricatura Galerie Kassel announced in a joint report that the cartoonist had "lost the fight against cancer" "after a long illness".
Martin Sonntag, director of the Caricatura Gallery, described the loss as "dramatic".
Perscheid's humor was “not refreshing,” said Antje Haubner, program manager at Lappan Verlag, “it was black.
He didn't just want to play with his cartoons, he wanted to bite. "
Martin Perscheid was born in Wesseling near Cologne in 1966.
Since 1994 his cartoons have been published in numerous magazines and newspapers, since 1998 under the title »Perscheid's abysses«.
In 2002 he received the "Max & Moritz Prize" for the best German comic series.
In 2004 he took third place at the “German Cartoon Award”, and in 2018 also third place at the “German Cartoon Award”.
The Caricatura in Kassel honored Perscheid in 2016 with the »Monument to the Unknown Idiot«, which has since stood on the canopy of the gallery at the Kassel KulturBahnhof.
Martin Perscheid lived and worked in Wesseling until his death.
