By announcing the extension of the health pass on July 12, Emmanuel Macron announced the obligation of sesame to go to a restaurant, cafe or bar.
The government quickly clarified that this would also apply to terraces, catching professionals who, if they can easily control the sanitary pass inside, fear not being able to do it outside.
Only collective catering and truck drivers are exempt from the obligation of a health pass.
Restaurant owners on the front line
The terraces have very often been a "weapon" of the government to find a compromise between opening and closing restaurants.
On May 19, during the deconfinement, restaurants were able to reopen by serving only on the terrace.
Already during the first confinement, the reopening of the restaurants had been carried out in phases, with first a service on the terrace in the areas most affected by the virus, the risk of contamination being lower outside.

Already extended since July 21 to places of leisure and culture, it will be extended from August 9 to everyday places (bars, restaurants, cafes, shopping centers, hospitals) and to long-distance journeys (by train, plane or bus).
