Because of an operation that was necessary at short notice, Charlie Watts, drummer for the Rolling Stones, missed the British rock band's US tour.
The operation was successful, but Watts must now recover for several weeks, the band quoted a spokesman for the 80-year-old.
"Once in my life my timing was a little off," said Watts, according to the message.
He will heed the advice of the medical professionals and had accepted that his recovery would take a while.
At first there were no details about the operation.
Watts will fully recover, it just said.
The tour, which was interrupted due to the corona pandemic, will continue as planned, emphasized the band.
He asked his "great friend" Steve Jordan to fill in for him, said Watts.
Jordan has accompanied Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards on his solo pieces.
The first concert of the newly started »No Filter Tour« is planned for September 26th in St. Louis (Missouri).
The tour began on September 9, 2017 in Hamburg's Stadtpark.
In 2019, some concerts in North America had to be postponed because singer Mick Jagger had to undergo heart surgery.
Drummer Watts should be back on board in time for the band's 60th anniversary next year.
In 2004 he had to undergo two operations for a larynx cancer disease, but was then considered cured.
