Big cheese recall.

The French company Gillot SAS is withdrawing two of its cheeses from the market.

Germany is badly affected by this.

Saint-Hilaire-de-Briouze (France) - The French manufacturer Gillot SAS is launching a recall for its product "Camembert de Normandie AOP St. Hilaire aux lait cru" in a 250-gram package.

As the company reports, so-called E-coli bacteria have been detected in the cheese.

These can lead to gastrointestinal complaints, among other things.

Specifically, the recall relates to the cheese product from Gillot SAS with the best before date (BBD) 07.08.2021, the identity code FR 61.402.001 CE and the LOS label 161311. The Federal Office for Consumer Protection publishes it on the Internet portal “food warning.de” and food safety (FSVO) consumer information that provides more information about the recall.

Nationwide cheese product recall: proven bacteria force manufacturer Gillot SAS to act

"During an investigation, verotoxin-producing E.coli (Stx1 gene) were found in the cheese of this batch, which can probably cause health problems when the item is consumed," says the official letter.

The cheese product from Gillot SAS was marketed nationwide through different distribution channels.

Already purchased "Camembert de Normandie AOP St. Hilaire aux lait cru" in the 250 gram pack should not be consumed.

Purchased goods can be returned to the relevant dealer and the costs will also be reimbursed.

The E-coli bacteria found in cheese can cause various diseases in humans.

According to the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), watery to bloody diarrhea can occur depending on the severity.

According to experts, an infection in adults can also proceed without any symptoms.

In the worst case, the consequence of infection with the bacteria mentioned is the risk of hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).

This describes a disease that manifests itself, for example, in acute kidney failure and blood clotting disorders.

In individual cases, HUS even leads to death.

Suspected contamination with bacteria: Another Camembert from Gillot SAS will be withdrawn from sale

In addition to the “Camembert de Normandie AOP St. Hilaire aux lait cru”, Gillot SAS is recalling another cheese product.

This is the "Camembert de Normandie AOP Marie Harel au lait cru", also in a 250-gram pack.

The reason for this recall is the suspicion of contamination with undesired bacteria (Escherichia coli, STX1 gene, STEC)).

The French manufacturer is therefore withdrawing the product in question from the sale.

The following federal states are affected by this recall: Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hamburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saxony-Anhalt.

There is also a health risk from a Lidl pesto that has now been recalled in two countries. Our brand new consumer newsletter will keep you up to date on consumer information and product recalls.
