Because she left her 20-month-old daughter alone in her apartment for days and the child died, a young woman in England was sentenced to nine years in prison.
That was decided by a court on Friday in the southern English city of Lewes.
The now 19-year-old had previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
In December 2019, she was traveling more than six days, sometimes hundreds of kilometers, to celebrate her 18th birthday and had left her daughter unattended.
The toddler starved to death.
The mother lived with her daughter in a council flat in the seaside town of Brighton.
However, although a youth protection program was in place, she was not assigned a social worker.
The competent authority is still investigating the incident.
A similar case occurred in Cologne last year.
There, a 24-year-old mother gave her five-year-old daughter so little to eat that the child barely escaped death.
In May, the woman was sentenced to nine years in prison for attempted murder.
