Fishing: the project "Streets of the bluefin tuna of Sicily" is underway

The development and enhancement of the territory and of the commercial activities that exist in the areas historically affected by bluefin tuna fishing. This is the goal of the Strade del Tuna di Sicilia project, promoted by the Mediterranean Fisheries Department of the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Mediterranean Fisheries of the Sicilian Region. The development and enhancement of the territory and of the commercial activities that exist in the areas historically affected by bluefin tuna fishing. This is the goal of the Strade del Tuna di Sicilia project, promoted by the Mediterranean Fisheries Department of the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Mediterranean Fisheries of the Sicilian Region. The project, carried out by the Feedback agency and supported by the OP FEAMP 2014-2020, intends to create paths that network cultural and environmental assets linked to the ancient tuna traps, thematic museums, accommodation facilities, fish companies, ichthy-tourist companies, fishing tourism and nautical tourism. Two itineraries will initially be created,one in Western Sicily including the Trapani coast and the Egadi islands and one in Eastern Sicily on the Syracusan coast. The site dedicated to the project is already online at www.stradetonnorossosicilia.it on which it is possible to register to join the itineraries that will be created.



All the productive activities that revolve around bluefin tuna fishing, fishing companies and their families but also hospitality ones, fishing tourism or nautical tourism that insist in the territories of the Trapani and Syracusan coast can join. The Streets of the bluefin tuna of Sicily will promote thematic tourism in the territories where the tuna traps have historically represented an important model of socio-economic development of the area also through the involvement of a network of stakeholders, aiming at the creation of tourist offers differentiated by geographical areas and sustainable. The itineraries will foster cooperation between public bodies, coastal action groups (Gac), agri-food companies and beyond and cultural associations for the creation of an innovative model for the development oftourist offer.
